and among early-stage companies working on novel material ideas which
make use of the concepts of nano-technology. Nano-technology
is a new way of
looking at devices, structures, biotech, optics, instruments, and
materials which has generated interest and excitement among many
technology companies. In the U.S., alone, there are at least
1,000 companies who self-identify themselves as "nano-technology"
companies. The U.S. government is supporting private
"nano-technology" development at a rate of about $1 billion in 2005
with the state of California providing an additional $400
million. This is a new technology with areas of focus which
are likely to have a significant impact on many businesses over the
next decade.
