The worldwide market for chemicals and materials for semiconductor manufacturing is roughly a $14 billion market today, and suppliers to this market serve the $233 billion semiconductor market, an engine of economic growth around the world.  The expectation for near-term growth in the semiconductor market is particularly notable in mainland China where Chinese investment in new wafer fabs has been heavy.

However, much of the development of new semiconductor wafer manufacturing technologies, and the chemicals, gases, and materials they require, is concentrated in Silicon Valley.  Frequently these new manufacturing technologies are introduced by small, early innovators who struggle to introduce their technolgies.  Large, established semiconductor manufacturers are often reluctant to incorporate these new manufacturing developments because of the risks inherent in working with novel technologies and small start-up companies.  However, established businesses can play a valued role for both innovators and semiconductor manufacturers in overcoming this barrier.
